t?st - Bubbles on the Slopes. Every Day.
New for winter 2014-2015, Northstar will host t?st, the celebratory culinary tradition that redefines the art of the daily toast. Celebrating the mountains, Lake Tahoe and the tradition of toasting to friends and family, Northstar invites guests to raise their flutes and sip bubbles each day on the mountain at 2 p.m. Luxurious, whimsical and an ode to fun in the mountains, t?st invites guests to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of “California laid-back luxury” found only at Northstar.
Mountain Table Features California-Sourced Cuisine
Epicureans are invited to discover the essence of Northstar’s laid-back California luxury through Mountain Table, the new mountaintop culinary experience at Northstar’s Zephyr Lodge, which features an entire menu of California-sourced ingredients. Offered twice monthly from December, 2014 through March, 2015 as well as special seating during the weekend of Valentine’s Day, each mountaintop dinner presents a feast for the senses which celebrates the best of California’s freshly-sourced produce, meats and seasonal ingredients; masterfully paired with regional artisan wines, craft beers, and distilled spirits. Dinner is served in Northstar’s Zephyr Lodge, which is renowned for its refined mountain elegance and unmistakable, panoramic view of the Sierra Nevada’s Pacific Crest through floor-to-ceiling windows. Each Mountain Table dinner will donate proceeds to one of North Lake Tahoe’s non-profit foundations.
Masters of Cuisine and Wine Convene on the Snow at Northstar
Presenting the Lake Tahoe region’s newest food and wine celebration on the snow, Northstar California invites foodies to the first annual event presenting California’s best gourmet dishes. The weekend event gathers the best of chefs, masters of winemaking and renowned spirit distillers who together present tastes to be savored by guests throughout a variety of elegant venues on the mountain. Perfectly-paired flavors will be presented – such as regional wines and cheeses, vodka and oysters, and an extensive menu of original recipes which feature fresh, seasonal ingredients derived from California’s best sources. Scheduled for the end of March, 2015, Northstar’s celebration of the senses represents the height of winter’s culinary traditions at Lake Tahoe.
New Experiences for Families and Children
Terrain Based Learning 2.0
As the first resort to introduce Smart Terrain™ and terrain-based learning into instruction, Northstar will launch the next chapter of skiing’s most innovative instructional methodology in 2014-2015. Additional strategically-created snow enhancements – such as berms, gentle rollers and angled features – will offer improved focus on technique which guides skiers and riders to the next ability level.
“The concept behind Northstar’s terrain-based learning features is to provide a seamless, natural transition between beginner, intermediate, and advanced ability levels,” said Andrew Buckley, Northstar senior director of skier services. “Skiers and riders will be able to learn on subtly-sculpted snow features that help to steer them into the correct technique. The added snow features help to control speed and body position, which allows a guest to focus on a specific task. Once guests recognize the feeling of good technique, progression happens naturally and much more quickly.”
Enhanced terrain-based learning features can be experienced through the Northstar Kids’ and Adult Ski & Snowboard Schools, the Adventure, Guiding and Learning Center, and the Burton Learn-to-Ride Academy.
New Progression Snow Park for Families and Kids
Northstar’s renowned terrain parks are constructed with masterful precision suitable for the world’s best athletes, including Northstar’s 2014 Olympic gold medalist, David Wise; and this winter’s new series of progression snow features will bring additional inspiration to budding terrain park skiers and riders. Catering to children and families, the new progression park features will offer a smoother, more refined transition between beginner, intermediate and advanced ability levels during Burton Learn-to-Ride instruction; and for families in search of the best features to enjoy together for a day on the slopes, the new progression features offer an ideal option.
Family Après Snow Play
New for winter 2014-2015, Family Après Snow Play offers an arena of interactive snow sculptures and features, fun kid-centric coaching and play with Northstar’s professional instructors, music and a festive atmosphere ideal for families and children. Located at The Village Overlook above the skate arena, the Après Snow Play area allows for additional activities during select weekends and holidays.
Holiday Tree Lights, Northern Lights and Noel Nights
Northstar California will usher in the spirit of the holidays commencing with the celebratory Tree Lighting Ceremony during the weekend after Thanksgiving Day. The tried-and-true family tradition invites guests to The Village at Northstar for kid-friendly activities, S’mores, sleigh rides, holiday music and the piece de resistance – the official lighting of the Holiday Tree.
The first annual Northern Lights festival will commence Friday, Dec. 12 by welcoming connoisseurs to the Brewmaster Dinner at Zephyr Lodge. The five-course menu will feature fresh, seasonal produce and meats from California’s finest sources. Each course will be customized to highlight select craft brews and seasonal specialties from Lagunitas Brewing Company, the featured brewery of this December’s Brewmaster Dinner.
Northern Lights culminates Saturday, Dec. 13, during which kids and families partake in a day and evening of light-filled revelry and activities, a torch light procession and snow cat light parade – all of which leads to The Village at Northstar where the festivities and entertainment continue until the crescendo of the Fireworks Grand Finale.
Northern Lights offers the perfect complement to one of the Tahoe region’s most celebrated traditions, Noel Nights. Offered for the first three Thursday evenings throughout December, Noel Nights invites families and friends to partake in classic holiday celebrations and activities – such as horse-drawn sleigh rides, holiday caroling, ice skating, photos with Santa Claus, special shopping and dining events and more.
